Meeting the Board Directors

Derek was really nervous when he was suddenly summoned to the monthly Board Meeting this morning and didn’t know what to expect. His two colleagues, Dave and Frank, who have just received their promotions in the last two months, reassured him that it’s good news for him. As the skeptical young man walked away hesitantly, Dave and Frank exchanged acknowledging glances and slightly naughty smiles…They had gone through the same process in the last two Board Meetings, so they know exactly what’s in store for Derek…

Now, two hours later and still counting, on the floor underneath the boardroom table while the Board Meeting continued intensely above, Derek was no longer nervous or afraid. Rather, he was ecstatic. After being introduced to each of the Board Directors…and their feet, Derek learned that being allowed to get up close and intimate with the feet of the Directors was a distinctive honour at the Company, a privilege reserved only for the best and most promising employees. Now he understood what Dave and Frank meant this morning. As he continued to dutifully service the feet of the Finance and Marketing Directors, Derek can literally smell, and taste, the promotion coming his way…
